WOMAD 2014

As promised here is my WOMAD diary from the weekend!! All wrote on the day and updated and edited at home :)

Friday

Up nice and early ready for a long day ahead! We left the house at 7.30 and when we arrived around 8ish we got our wristbands and set up camp. We had a few minor dramas but everything was set up fairly quickly and we soon settled in. We stayed in meadow park and camp so we have one car with the tent and our other car was in the main car park. Although we were appropriately 1 mile from the arena the walk didn't take up long and the surroundings were pretty.
I waited for Rhiannon to arrive and then we had lunch and all separated off our separate ways. We collected our La-Di-Da Loos wristband and then we walked around. The La-Di-Da Loos were really clean toilets and they had hair-dryers, plug sockets and a selection of nice soaps, lotions, hair treatments and deodorant( which was very popular this weekend) I paid (well mum treated me) £16 for the ticket which was unlimited usage all weekend (between 7.30am -10.30pm).
I did a bit of shopping before heading back for dinner. We got caught in a 10 minute rain shower which was very refreshing and we had a BBQ dinner. Rhiannon and I then rave painted ourselves up before heading out for the evening. I some how thought it was a good idea to only wear factor 10 and I burnt my shoulders and face which was rather painful. Sadly Rhiannon had to work on Saturday so she left at 10pm so I had a warm shower, followed by a hot drink before heading off to bed.

Saturday

Woke up at 7am to the greenhouse that was my tent. The sun was shining and it was already quite warm. After using my first portaloo of the weekend I proceed to get ready and eat my breakfast.I decided to cover up today and wear factor 30 suncream! My parents went out to buy food so Liam and I stayed behind to wait for my fellow friend Amy. We ate lunch and went off to enjoy the day. We did some more shopping and some dancing. We went to the boobcube and signed up and I got my free t-shirt which I very quickly fell in love with. We stuck to our WOMAD tradition and had some Churros before heading off for some shisha. For whose who don't know, shisha is just flavoured water vapour with charcoal. There are no chemicals or drugs involved. We had double apple flavour and it was lovely. We went back to the tent and did some henna before she went home. Rhiannon then arrived from work and we had another BBQ dinner before heading to the La-Di-Da loos to do our hair and make up and power up our phones. We then headed off to the rave tent after meeting our friends. After the rave we bought some cheesy nachos before heading back to the tent. We chilled out before going to bed!

Sunday

The last full day! This weekend has gone far too fast! Rhiannon and I headed straight to the La-Di-Da loos bright and early to use the toilets before eating breakfast and getting ready. We went up to the arena earlier today to fit in a full days experience. I finally bought my bandana which was my main priority! After a walk round we went back for lunch! We headed straight for the Ghost train afterwards only to discover Rhiannon had forgotten her purse so we walked back and collected it. After dinner we chilled at the tent with the family. We watched Liam make a fool of himself and had a laughing fit during my Dad and brothers water fight. We got ready at the La-Di-Da loos and then enjoyed a last night. We put glitter on our faces and just covered our arms in rave paint. I left my glow sticks at the tent so we walked back again. We went on the Ferris wheel and ate crepes. After being reunited with the family we had a fun walk back to the tent. We stayed up talking and then went to sleep.

Monday

Rhiannon and I got up at 7 so we could use the La-Di-Da loos one last time, It was dead everywhere so we got lots of pictures and videos while we could. It was so sad how quiet the arena was and to think WOMAD was over for another year. We packed up the tent and we left around 10am.

My Achievements!

  • I walked several miles so my fatty foods wouldn't have stayed in my body
  • I felt confident in my shorts
  • I discovered new artists
  • I only had to use a portaloo 3 times!
  • I had an amazing time with my friends and family!

  1. This looks so much fun. I had to look on a previous post to find out what a WOMAD is (lol) but the good thing about non headliners playing is that it keeps ticket prices low (ie more affordable) ... Good to see you had a nice time :-) xx
